Olympia

Olympia, is a city of ancient Greece in Ilia, known as the start point for the Olympic Games in classical times, comparable in importance to the Pythian Games were held in Delphi. Olympia was the gold and ivory statue of Zeus by Pheidias, which was known in antiquity as one of the seven wonders of the world. The origins of the Olympic Games dating back to 776 BC were held every four years. In 394 AD Byzantine Emperor Theodosius banned the games as paganism fact.
