Nafplio

Nafplio or Nafplion is a city of Peloponnese, capital of Argolida and the main port of the eastern Peloponnese. According to the 2001 census it had 13,822 inhabitants. It is one of the most picturesque cities in the country and was the capital of the Greek state in the years 1828 to 1833.

Nafplio is known for Bourtzi the small fort built on an island in the harbor, the Palamidi, Venetian fortress that dominates the city, Akronafplia (Turkish Itch-Kale), another Venetian fortress on a peninsula of the same name, and as a place of murder of Ioannis Kapodistrias.
